Super Apps for the SuperBowl!
In the last few months, we’ve made a point to compile helpful lists of free mobile apps you may find useful for upcoming holidays or events. Although it’s not officially a national holiday, for some, the Super Bowl might as well be. And even though it may definitely be an American sport, we also recognize that lots of other countries tune in too. So here are a few mobile apps we found that you may want to install on your device to get the most from your Super Bowl experience.
NFL Mobile (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad Free; Android Free, only available for Verizon Wireless subscribers)
If you are a Verizon Wireless subscriber, you can download this mobile app for free. Before the game, get the latest news, highlights, and statistics on each team. During the game, don’t miss a second by watching every play of the game streaming live on your device.
Are You Watching This?! (Android Free)
In case the game is a blowout by the end of the first quarter, you can feel free to switch the channel if you have installed this app. “Are You Watching This?” will alert you if the game turns into a squeaker and makes sure you won’t be the only one at the office the next day that didn’t see that awesome final play.
Football Rule Book (iPad Free)
Is the Super Bowl the only football game you watch every year? If so, you may want to check out this app, which will help you navigate the rules of the game, especially those confusing referee signals. And don’t be ashamed if you don’t know the rules – it’s a confusing game! Just ask Donovan McNabb.
NFL Pro Tweets (iPad, iPhone Free)
One thing I enjoy about Twitter is reading what celebrities and athletes think without the censor of a PR person. If you want to hear what the players that AREN’T playing in the game have to say about the Super Bowl, this may be a fun app. All of the NFL players’ Twitter feeds will stream to you in real time, hopefully delivering an insightful and entertaining take on the game.
ESPN ScoreCenter (iPhone, iPad, and Android, all free). I have this app already. I like that I can customize the app to follow the stats and updates of all of my favorite teams across all sports. For game day, a great way to look up the latest stats on the Giants and Patriots.
A+ Super Bowl Commercials (iPhone, iPad Free)
If you don’t really care for the game and are really only watching for the commercials, then you may want to install this app. “A+ Super Bowl Commercials” allow you to watch some of the best commercials that have aired in recent years.
NFL Super Bowl Trivia (Android, $1.49)
Think you know your Super Bowl Trivia? If you don’t care about the commercials, install this app and have a friendly competition amongst your friends between breaks in the game.
Fan Finder (iPhone, iPad, Free)
Don’t know where to go to watch the game? Fan Finder locates sports bars around you and helps you find where fellow fans of your chosen team will be.
New York Giants Official Mobile App (iPad, iPhone and Android, all free) and New England Patriots Official Mobile App (iPad, iPhone, and Android, all free)
What would game day be without the official mobile apps from the two respective competitors? If you want to be in the know, install these teams’ free mobile apps for all of the latest news.
So what are your plans for the big game? Watching it with friends? Going out to a local bar? Skipping it altogether and watching Downton Abbey instead?
