New Publisher 2010 Tutorial Just Launched

We are finally wrapping up our Office 2010 tutorials with the release of Publisher 2010. Publisher 2010 is Microsoft Office’s desktop publishing software. It’s used to create publications like newsletters, brochures, invitations, business cards and more. While not as popular as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, we still get a lot of requests for Publisher 2010 from our learners. Therefore, we decided to create a short topic, that covers just the essentials that are unique to Publisher.

Our Publisher 2010 tutorial includes how to:

  • Plan and produce a publication
  • Design or use a template to layout your publication
  • Work to format and fit text on the page
  • Insert, format and enhance images
  • Group and arrange objects and shapes for enhanced graphics and images
  • Work to format tables for specific types of text like dates, times or price lists

If you are a beginner to Microsoft Office, you should probably take our Word 2010 tutorial first. We cover a lot of basics in Word that will be essential to know in our Publisher course.

It should also be noted that the tools and features in Publisher 2010 have not been updated in the same way that they have in the 2010 versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The Ribbon toolbar that was introduced in Office 2007 has been added to Publisher, but some of the themes, styles and photo-editing tools in Publisher date back to the 2003 version.

Microsoft chose not to update Publisher in 2007, so we are not sure why they didn’t do a complete update to the 2010 version. However, it is important to note because some of the features that you might really like in Word and PowerPoint may not work in Publisher 2010.

That being said it is still a very useful program, especially for complicated publications like newsletters. Plus there are learners who want a complete knowledge of all the programs in Microsoft Office, and we are happy to provide this course for you.

So visit Publisher 2010 to see what it’s all about and start learning!
