Meet the Staff: Julianna
Julianna is one of two videographers who, especially for the last two years, have worked towards creating the word videos in the Reading program.
What led you to working at GCFLearnFree.org?
“About 2 weeks before I was going to graduate from college, I was in a panic and looking for media production jobs. I saw a post on Craigslist for my current position (Video Content Specialist) and sent in a link to my portfolio, which included the video that apparently got me noticed: a series of looping Mr. T dance moves. When I saw all the vintage archival footage used in the word videos, I knew this was THE job for me.”
What project are you most proud of while working here?
“I did the Math video series from beginning to end, and I’m very proud of that. It was a struggle at first – I realized that the way I learned this material as a kid didn’t cut it now. Writing the scripts for this series taught me so much about explaining math concepts to adults– and it also made me a better writer, I’d have to say. I learned a lot about simple animation and making my own clip art, too.
“Also, I made the song that plays softly in the background when you open the Reading Program. I like it so much that I sometimes let it play continuously as I make word videos.”
What is your favorite thing about working at GCFLearnFree.org?
“It’s so great to have a job that encourages creativity. Well, it’s more like creativity IS my job. I also really like and respect my co-workers—everyone here is doing cool stuff at and outside of work. It’s nice to be around such talented and interesting folks.”
How would your co-workers describe you?
“Maybe that I’m simultaneously stoic and goofy? And tall. And good at making things.”
What is something that not a lot of people know about you but you WISH more people COULD know?
“I have a weekly radio show about North Carolina rock, I’m very particular about fonts, and my hair is always in a bun right on top of my head.”
In a few weeks we’ll introduce you to Micah, our other videographer. In the meantime, the next time you are browsing through the Reading or Math programs, remember to thank Julianna for her hard work and creativity!
