All New Lessons for Computer Basics

This weekend we launched all new lessons and content for our most popular tutorial Computer Basics. Computer and technology have changed quite a bit since we last updated this topic in 2008. The iPad has taken off, wireless technology rules the game and there is apparently an app for everything. In order to keep up, we have added new lessons on Mobile Devices, Apps, the Cloud and more.

We also reorganized the lessons and added a unit on “Getting Started.” As we were evaluating the old course, we realized we don’t really fully cover what learners should do once they get their computer set-up and turned on.  Beginning users might not understand what that trash can is for or what those icons on the bottom of the screen do. So we decided to add a couple of lessons on beginning to use your computer and getting to know the desktop and operating system.

In addition, we have added new photography, interactives and infographics to match the style and level of delivery that we use in our newer tutorials. At this time, we have decided not to re-shoot the current videos, since the content they present is not outdated. However, we have added a few concept videos into the lesson pages to showcase newer technology.

It is our hope that both new and previous learners of this topic will benefit from the updated content, since it is our most popular topic on the site. To check out what’s new, go to Computer Basics and enjoy.

  1. I really enjoy your site, especially working with Microsoft Office. Is anyway to add more like Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Project, Microsoft sharepoint and Microsoft expression.

    • We create tutorials based on the number of requests we receive for a topic. As far as I know, no one has ever asked for a tutorial in any of those topics but I’ll pass this along to our curriculum writers.

  2. Hi Jessica

I am a computer tutor from Ireland and I love web based interactive training as it gives the learner the option of “out of class training”. Would you mind if I introduced this blog for the purpose of Blogging practice?
