The Dreaded Cover Letter

I actually enjoy writing. I have a personal blog that I regularly update and tend to write a lot in my job here at GCFLearnFree.org. But even I have always dreaded writing cover letters.

It’s incredibly difficult to concisely state how you are qualified for an employment position without seeming immodest. And there are only so many synonyms for “experience.”

Regardless, cover letters are a necessary evil, especially in this economic climate. Once upon a time you may have been able to apply to many jobs with just a resume but now that application would get lost in a sea of others with nothing to make you stand out from the crowd.

If you aren’t using a cover letter and you aren’t having much luck getting that job you’ve had your eye on, maybe it’s time to finally craft a cover letter.

No one can write your cover letter for you – you are the one with the experience and only you can state why you are interested in the position for which you are applying. But there is no reason to let it intimidate you. Review these lessons and set aside some time crafting your letter. When you get that dream job, you’ll be glad you did!
