Beyond Email – A New Tutorial About Online Communication

On June 1 we launched our new Email Basics subject with updated topics on Email 101, Gmail and more. As we were revising this subject we realized that communicating online in today’s world is about so much more than just using email. For our learners to be truly skilled in the digital world they need to learn about the other popular ways to talk and share online.

So, today we launched Beyond Email, a new tutorial that will show you all the methods, tools and services you can use to communicate online. This topic includes lessons on popular ways to:

  • talk in real-time with chat (instant messaging), online phone calls and video chat (Skype)
  • send messages with texting and direct messaging
  • communicate openly and socially on popular social media sites with posts, tweets and status updates
  • engage with online content using comments and social plugins that allow you to give feedback on web content or share it with your connections
  • communicate and share your interests, opinions and expertise with the whole world by creating a blog

In this tutorial, we introduce you to these concepts and discuss the pros and cons of using each method of communication. If you are interested in learning more about a particular method, we provide you with links to popular services or our own tutorials.

It is our hope that this introductory tutorial will give our learners a solid foundation in how to communicate in the 21st century. To get started, visit Beyond Email.
