Help for North Carolina Tax Payers

Governor Beverly Purdue announced at a press conference Thursday, March 4th, that North Carolina residents may be able to file their federal and state taxes for free. This is because North Carolina is one of 20 states participating as a Free File Alliance State. Not everyone in North Carolina is eligible for free tax filing. In order to qualify, you must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  1. Your adjusted Gross Income must be $31,000 or less
  2. You qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit
  3. You served in the Military, Reserves or National Guard

To find out if you are eligible or to begin filing your tax return, visit www.taxfreedom.com. Make sure to have your 2008 tax returns handy.
