Lately Facebook has been updating features on the site to give users more options. The  biggest change occurred  a few months ago when they changed the look and feel of the Profile page. Many users were upset and sounded off by posting comments to Facbook’s blog. People were even threatening to close their accounts. I couldn’t believe how serious people were taking this change!  Anyway, I personally didn’t mind the change and I like the new look! My page feels more organized. I give Facebook a thumbs-up for this change but I’m not sure how I feel about the latest change.

The latest change has to do with  your  identity. Right now you search for  your Friends by their first and last name.  Once you find a Friend  you see their name posted on their profile but if you happen to look up at the web address bar, you see http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1346086031&ref=name. Basically your  ID is just some random combination of numbers. As of Saturday June 13, 2009 your name will be displayed in the address bar! You can choose to keep your name the way it is or pick a new username. So when people are on your page it will look like this now: http://www.facebook.com/gcflearnfree. So how does this benefit you? Well the biggest benefit is that it makes it easier for people to go straight to your profile from the web address bar.  The other cool thing is you have your own URL that reflects the username of your choice.  You can have a username like FunnyChic if you want but make sure you pick something you can live with because your username can’t be changed.
