Free Tax Preparation Sites

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites help low income (usually under $42,000) families or individuals prepare their income tax returns for FREE. With tax time right around the corner, VITA sites are popping up all over .  For example, my own church is offering free tax preparation every Saturday from January 31 to April 4.

To find a VITA site near you: You can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040, or you can search VITA sites and your state in an online search engine.  Individual states or municipalities could have thier own list of VITA sites.  Here are a few state VITA listings that I found:

This list of North Carolina VITA sites was compiled by EITC-Carolinas, a non-profit dedicated to promoting the Earned Income Tax Credit.  Find your county in the alphabetical list to find your nearest VITA site.

Here is a list of VITA sites in Kentucky.

The California VITA site serach engine is available beginning Januray 15, 2009.
