Online Classes Registering Now in New Structure

By jeni 5 January 2009 18 Comments

We are currently putting our new online class structure into action – a little bit at a time.  This will eventually enable more of you to register for classes more frequently.  We realize, though, that the classes seem to be filling up very quickly right now as so many of you are registering.  Please know that the registration process is not broken; we simply have some classes in progress that need to finish out in the old format before this new structure will completely take over.

Until this happens, the wait time for seats will decrease by a little bit each day.  Even though it seems like the registration process is taking longer than normal, you really are able to register for seats in the class you want more frequently than you were before.   And as more and more instructors become available and as learners finish classes earlier than they could in the past, more seats will open even more frequently for you.

We ask that you please be patient as we work through this ramp-up period.  Over the next few days, you will likely have to wait for seats to open up in the class you want.  We ask that you just keep checking back to find open seats.  We appreciate your patience and your understanding.  And, as always, we are so glad to have you learn with us, and we look forward to being able to register more of you much more quickly in the days to come!

I too appreciate knowing the details of the new process, but now that I see how great the classes are, it’s really hard to wait! Three and a half months ago, I dismissed the site as irrelevant to my life, but now, every day at 12:00, 4:00 and 8:00, I am checking to see if seats are open in ANY class! Thank you for making learning available to anyone, anytime, free of charge.

Thanks for the explanation. Can’t wait my next class. Excel 2007 was brilliant. I’m thinking of taking Word 2007 or Powerpoint 2007 next.

I have one question, though. Will Access 2003 or 2007 class be available in near future also?

Thank you so much for the explanation. I too was getting really frustrated and losing hope of ever taking another online course. I finished the Excel 2007 and loved it! Its just so perfect for my current situation. So, PLEASE PLEASE! get the new system going! I’m really anxious and excited to take the next online courses. But, in the meantime, I’ll take advantage of the tutorials.

    Thanks!

thanks for the explanation! i was so worried that something was wrong and that I wouldn’t be able to sign up. Patience is a virtue…

I don’t care for the explanation. Since I joined I have set alarm after alarm to allow me to be on the Site, logged in and ready with cursor on register. Only to have it switch right back to ALL SLOTS FULL, without register button activate. I’ll try a few more times, then I’m done with it!

Dale47 – keep in mind that unless you see green text saying

“Limited slots available. Registration will begin in ___ hours, ___ minutes.”

there will be not be any openings at the next registration period. Please take a look at our support center for more information:

    http://www.gcflearnfree.org/home/support.aspx?q=1

We do register hundreds of learners each week – so the system is working, but as you have seen – it can be very difficult to get into a class.
