Happy Holidays!
We at GCFLearnFree.org recognize that everyone celebrates the Holiday season in different ways. In an effort to understand and celebrate some of the similarities and differences, we decided to go out and find out more about three distinct and wonderful celebrations that are observed at this time of year. Here’s a short list of some other celebrations that we found. If you know of a celebration that goes on at this time of year, please let us know! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
- Eid al-Adha or Feast of Sacrifice is the most important feast on the Muslim calendar. It represents the end of the Pilgrimage to Mecca.
- Bodhi Day is observed December 8 or the Sunday immediately preceding. This date represents Siddhartha Gautama’s realization and presentation to his fellow seekers of the Four Table Truths.
- Lohri is the Hindu festival that marks the end of winter. It is celebrated January 13 and celebrates fertility and the spark of life.
- Winter Solstice is the darkest and longest night of the year. It marks a crucial part of the natural cycle when the sun renews its journey toward longer days and times of new growth.
