Goin’ Green for the Holidays
Did you know that you can eliminate waste and save money this Holiday season by doing a few simple things? Recently I visited the Scrap Exchange in Durham NC and I was fascinated by all of the cool things you can create by reusing recycled products. Ann Woodward tells us how we can Go Green for the Holidays and save money. Here are a few helpful tips and gift ideas:
- Holiday Dishes-Use regular porcelain or clay dishes. If you must use disposable dishes use corn based products which are compostable.
- Gift Wrapping-Use old maps, newspapers, and fabrics around the house to wrap gifts in. You can also purchase recycled wrapping paper!
- Holiday Trees and Plants- Check with your local waste services to see when the scheduled pick up is for trees. The trees can be grinded and used as mulch for your yard!
- Holiday Lights- Purchase LED lights which will save energy.
- Holiday Cards-It’s always special to receive a hand made card! Consider making your cards this year out of paper, stencils, buttons, and other crafty things you can find around the house. You can also send an e-card online
