Announcing Our New Online Class Structure for 2009!

By allison 17 December 2008 72 Comments

GCFLearnFree.org appreciates all of our learners! In 2008 we awarded over 7,500 CEUs in our instructor supported classes. Over the years you’ve expressed how much you love to learn with us and how our classes have enriched your lives and enhanced your skills. We want you to continue to learn with us so we decided to enhance your learning experience.  In the upcoming weeks you’ll notice fewer instructor supported classes on the schedule. No, we’re not getting rid of online classes; we’re adding more opportunities for you to learn!

Starting in January you’ll notice a new look and feel in the online classroom environment. Our goal in launching this new environment is to serve more people and cut down on wait times to get into classes. Yep, that means you won’t have to wait until Friday for Excel 2007 to open at 12am! You will be able to  make a selection from all of the instructor led classes with open slots and register on the spot every day, every 3-4 hours.

Many of you are eager to learn and want to finish a class sooner than the required three weeks, so from now on it’s possible to finish in one week or less! Communication is key in online learning so we decided to give you one on one sessions with your instructor. This means you can ask your instructor questions as you complete your assignment, even before you turn it in.   For now, we’ve eliminated the discussion board and email. Don’t worry, before the new launch we’ll post a video with instructions on how to register and use the new classroom environment. We look forward to serving more learners in 2009!

The information re the new 2009 learning process is the greatest “xmas gift” I could ever receive. Having recently signed up for a course, I, out of my own ignorance, experienced a number of challenges and, unfortunately, had to withdraw prior to completion. I believe that had there been an opportunity to have a one-on-one exchange with an instructor I would have been able to complete the training. With the new procedure, I trust that won’t repeat itself. Also, condensing the learning time is absolutely awesome. I believe sometime in January I will be offered a position and probably NOT be afforded a three week timeframe to bring the necessary microsoft skill(s) up to date. One week’s training will be perfect!!! Thank you, thank you.

    To All The Instructors,
Big applause to you people! Happy yuletide saeson as well. I think this is a very great idea. At least we could finish our classes faster. Like me I don’t wait for the next wednesday to submit my assignment. Once I have it, I read my lessons focusly, and I submit it at the same day. My purpose is to let my instructor feel that I’m really eager to learn.
It’s true that it enhances everyone’s skills and inproves one’s life. More power and Godbless!

I have gain more knowledge and I’m more confident in Word and PowerPoint 2007 since registering with GCFLearnFree.org. In addition, I can now included this training on my resume with confidence in my skills in both software programs. Finally, I am extremely excited about being able to finish a three week program within one week, if possible.

Happy holidays to all the staff, and thank all of you who continue to look at ways to help us learn new software and skills at our own pace.

I have told many people about your service and I want to thank you so much for offering this to so many people who are in need. GOD BLESS all of you involved in making this available to the public, free of charge. HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Am ready to sign up for another class on Monday.

GCF is a great learning site. I have completed all classes except Excel 2007 which was incomplete due to my computer’s problem. All instructors are very cooperative. The classes were very interesting and knowledgeable. The most important act of GCF is issuing the certificates & CEU’s. Presently GCF offers classes of MS Office only. I request GCF competent authorites to offer programming classes also.

Answer: As of right now we aren’t sure if we are going to add more 2007 classes but we will add some more new topics! Stay tuned!

  • richardjb28 said:

I think its great, the opportunities you are providing for learning, however i was very disappointed when i attempted the Microsoft Word program but had to drop out of class because my system carries the 2007 version and you taught using Word 2003 which is very different. I am very interested in other classes but i need to know if lessons are to be taught using more updated versions of the programs.

    To GCF,
Thanks so much for the good work you are doing. Your services are invaluable. I just wanted to say that I just finished word 2003 with tom as an instructor. I just want you to know that because of that class and because I am still able to practice and access the tutorials anytime, I was able to do very well on a word 2003 test I had to take at a temporary agency. The class gave me enough confidence to take the test and the interviewer said my test score showed that I was very comfortable with word. I still need more practice but thanks to the tutorials I can practice as much as I need to
    Thanks so much

    Happy New Year to All!

I am so thrilled about these improvements for next year. However, I look forward to starting another class with you before the end of this year, Tom, as I will be waiting up tonight to sign in for Publisher.

I am one of the, apparently, overwhelming number of people anxious to start a class in QuickBooks. I finally purchased a tutorial only to find that it does not give any hands-on training. It is just too expensive for me to take College classes, so I hope you will soon be offering QuickBooks.

Best wishes to all of you and thank you for all the help you have given me.

Since I have a program with 15 volunteers instructors, I needed to be up and running on 2007 before the installation of 2007 on city computers. I have really, really enjoyed the online course and always put the video and exercise next to each other - this way I can go back and forth…by the way gcflearnfree.org is the only free interactive web training I have my volunteer instructors share with students in our current classes. The reason? I tell them by continuing their learning at home, or at the library, or wherever, after the classes, will increase their skills substantially after our classes (Bsics, Advanced Windows, Electronic File Management, Word I and II and Excell I and II). ALL of the students are 50 to 75 years of age and they are all seeking employment.

I am passionate about your website, how friendly it is to use, and all the new classes/subjects you will be covering. I spread the word every single day.
