Keyboarding Resources
One request we get quite often is for a keyboarding tutorial. Well, until we decide to do something in that area, I thought you might like to have some keyboarding resources:
Type Racer is a free online typing game…you can create an account or log in as a guest. The game gives you an excerpt from a book or other literary work appears. When the green light signals you to start, you type the text exactly as it appears. When you are finished, the game tells you how many words per minute (wpm) you typed and gives you an accuracy rate. It even tells you the origin of the excerpt! You can practice, race against friends, or be matched up with someone else at random to race against. I was very disappointed with my first attempt of 34 wpm…but by my third try I was at 48 wpm. I think I might become addicted to this game!
The free site typeonline offers keyoboard lessons, copy practice, speed typing tests and more. The lessons let you practice typing, and the text of the lesson tells you correct finger placement for touch typing. The text and graphics are limited, but the typing tests and copy practice are great tools to enhance your wpm and accuracy.
One other resource can be found right here on our blog! Check out Allison’s article about keyboard shortcuts.
Hope these resources are useful to you as you practice your keyborading skills…we’ll keep you posted about our possible future keyboarding tutorials.
