Quick Look at Google Chrome

By gcfadmin 9 September 2008 No Comment

What do you spend most of our time doing on the computer? Is it word processing, surfing the Internet, emailing, banking, uploading photos? At the moment we can’t do all of these things in one window. We have to switch between working with applications on our computer to a browser window where we can surf the Internet. But, what if we could do it all in one window instead of playing musical chairs with a bunch of windows? Well this is what Google hopes to accomplish with the launch of their new Chrome browser. Eventually they want you to be able to work in applications, surf the net, shop, and bank all in one place. They  aren’t there yet but hope to be soon. Until then here’s what I like about Google Chrome.

ONE BOX DOES IT ALL- You can search for stuff, enter a web address, and see your browsing history in one location.

TAB PAGE- Each time you open a new tab, the sites you visit the most and your bookmarks appear on the newly opened page. This eliminates typing in a web address for sites you frequently use.  If you’re someone who tends to visit the same sites each day, this feature makes it easy for you to just click on an image and open a page.

DYNAMIC TABS- This is a nice new feature. You can pull tabs out of the lineup into their own window. Like other browsers you can also rearrange tabs and have as many tabs as you would like open at one time.

INCOGNITO MODE- You may not want the web pages you visit to show up in your web history. You can go into Incognito Mode for a little privacy!

IMPORT SETTINGS FROM OTHER BROWSERS- I have a bunch of bookmarked sites that I reference from time to time and passwords that I often seem to forget. Chrome lets you copy all of your bookmarks and saved passwords from your previous browser.

Google plans to come out with a version for Mac and Linux users. For now Windows users can click here to download Chrome.
